FAD has a very active volunteer tutoring program. Most of our tutors work one-on-one with students in FAD's tutoring room (215) at the High School. We offer tutoring in Math, Chemistry, Biology, English, French, Spanish, Chinese, and Social studies. We also work to improve the language skills of students for whom English is a second language. Some of our tutors work with students by assisting teachers in classroomsparticularly if they have expertise in commercial art fields such as advertising, architecture, fashion design, and interior design. Some of our tutors become mentors to their students and assist them in their college applications. FAD also assists students in obtaining appropriate internships in the arts. If you are a student seeking to improve your academic skills or if you are interested in becoming a tutor, contact FAD tutoring program. Students can pick up a paper application for the tutoring program at the tutoring room, at the FAD Bulletin Board in the main lobby opposite the Security Desk, or from the Principal's secretary.
FAD provides the required chaperones on field trips to museums, architectural firms, and other places of interest.
If you would like to volunteer to chaperone future events, please contact
Charles Scalera, (212-755-3595)
Trips to museums introduce students to art on display. Many HSAD students have
never visited a museum before.
Field trips to architectural firms let students see what architects really do,
what their offices look like, what computer programs they use, how they make models,
what research is done during the design phase, and more. This helps them decide
whether or not architecture is what they want to pursue.
