FAD’s most recent efforts involve helping the HSAD Guidance Department with college- bound Seniors.
The College Application Program, (CAP) focuses on two ways to achieve this goal. The first is a fundraising effort to solicit donations of funds to cover the cost of application fees to city (CUNY) and state (SUNY) colleges .
For example, $65 is the cost of one student to apply to up to six city (CUNY) colleges. Also, these donated funds provide SAT reporting fees, and travel expenses for campus visits and interviews.
The second effort partners FAD volunteers with students to assist with the often confusing and overwhelming process of filling out applications and financial aid forms.
Many students come from families where fluent English is not spoken or where their parents are working two or three jobs.
CAP hopes to help seniors with the double burden of extra expenses and paperwork required in the application process to help them on their path to achieving their future careers.
